Explore the world of coding and design through with animation, robotics, video game design as well as home blueprint design and building. The power of math, intricate thinking, problem solving skills and collaboration combine to fuel imagination with real life experiences and outputs.
Courses designed for children and adults new to the world of STEM subjects. For some classes, each student needs a computer, but the other materials are provided.
Young students catch on quickly and easily to the basic principles of robotic movement and programming through fun engaging projects using the simple yet versatile Edison robot. Using Edblocks design for students up to age 8, students work on games, creative program design and use lego and other materials to build on their Edison robots. In this way, the students
develop problem-solving abilities and gain a basic understanding of engineering concepts, mechanics, electronics, and programming. Social skills are fostered through group projects, enhancing communication and teamwork.
Hands 4 Building provides the materials, real tools, real blueprints and sustainable basswood sticks and strips to create real-world structures. Students develop mathematical and engineering skills as they measure and plan the dimensions of the house. Understanding architectural principles, they apply geometry and physics concepts during construction. The process also enhances problem-solving abilities as builders encounter challenges in design and structure. Introducing basic electrical components for lighting or automation adds an element of technology to the project, fostering skills in electronics.
Scratch animation enables users to create interactive stories, games, and animations. Through the process of designing and coding these projects, learners develop computational thinking by breaking down problems into smaller steps, enhance logical reasoning as they sequence commands, and gain a foundational understanding of coding concepts. Students create their own games to show and share with others.
Stop animation involves capturing a series of still images to create the illusion of motion when played in sequence. Kids have a blast working together to create their own movie using clay, Legos and other creative materials. Stop animation promotes patience and attention to detail. Problem-solving skills are honed as they experiment with different movements and transitions. Stop animation encourages creativity, storytelling, and planning, as students conceptualize and execute their narratives through the careful arrangement of frames through plots and storyboards.
Electrical Engineering basics are covered when students learn with various kits how to assemble moving robots, and electrical robotic cars kits that contain ultrasonic obstacle avoidance, programmable distance measurement parts, electronic components with motherboards,
Students apply mathematical concepts to calculate resistances, voltages, and currents, fostering mathematical reasoning. The hands-on nature of building circuits enhances spatial reasoning and coordination which nurtures computational thinking
Edison robotics nurtures creativity in the field of robotic design using Ed Scratch for students older than 8. Students engaging in Edison robotics develop problem-solving abilities as they design and troubleshoot their robots. They gain a practical understanding of engineering concepts, honing skills in mechanics, electronics, and programming. The integration of Edison encourages critical thinking as students analyze challenges and iterate on their designs. Social life collaborative skills are fostered through group projects, enhancing communication and teamwork.

At Illuminway Educational Services, I started with a simple idea: to bring light and fun into the learning and education process. Learning lightly is a fundamental right and should not be limited by old ideas. I believe everyone has the right to light up with learning new subjects that build core skills that can last a lifetime in environments that support creativity, whether science is their "thing" or not.
The philosophy at Illuminway is to guide students in their natural curiosity and desire to learn and provide the means and materials to tap into the inner reasonings that are looking to come out to play. Project based learning in STEM is the fuel. Put students together and that light grows and carries into adulthood for endless possibilities.
I have over 25 years of working with learning processes, intricate systems and working to improve them through detailed analysis and intricate coding. Along the way in my finance background, I have taught young and older adults with no experience the basics of money management and how to start and maintain their own business foundations.
I grew up in Canada learning French and carried that ability to learn other languages where I studied abroad and lived in 5 countries. Being exposed to educational systems in other countries opened my eyes and mind.
I realized after years in finance and systems, how much I enjoy working with people who discover their own abilities and decided to move into the education system where young people are really needing a different kind of help. I jumped into educating myself with a Masters Degree in Organizational Learning and Leadership, then moved onto Waldorf, Montessori, Reggio Emilia courses and certifications along with hands on classroom teaching and tutoring.
Now I want to share my passion to improve the learning process with students in STEM subjects as well as languages. Learning is best experienced in a playful setting with people like myself who enjoy helping others to learn and grow with what they really want to learn and discover.
Light up learning is a way of life! Let's play!

AMAZON BOOK EXCERPT "Does your spouse's need to alphabetically organize books on the shelves puzzle you? Do your boss's tsunami-like moods leave you exasperated? Do your child's constant questions make you batty? If you've ever wanted to change your mate, your coworkers, or a family member, then "Put down your chisel," advise David Keirsey and Marilyn Bates in this book of personality types.
We are different for a reason, and that reason is probably more good than bad. Keirsey and Bates believe that not only is it impossible to truly change others (which they call embarking on a "Pygmalion project"), it's much more important to understand and affirm differences. Sounds easier than it is, you might say. Well, this book is a guide for putting an end to the Pygmalion projects in your life and starting on the path to acceptance."
